This week's readings

    Readings for this Sunday

Sunday 15 March 2020: Lent 3

Exodus 17:3-7.  Despite their liberation from slavery, the Israelites complain bitterly to Moses. Disregarding their ingratitude, God shows his care for his people and gives them water.

Romans 5:1-2,5-8.  St Paul explains that we have abundant grounds for hope. That hope lies in what God has done for us in Christ.

John 4:5-16,19-26,39-42.  In the encounter with the Samaritan woman, we see a parallel with the life-saving gift of water in the first reading. Jesus, the new Moses, offers something infinitely better than ordinary water: he offers ‘living water’ -  a share in the very life of God.
