This week's readings

    Readings for this Sunday

Sunday 8th December 2019: ADVENT 2

Isaiah 11:1-10. The reign of David was the high point in the history of Israel and the hope remained that a future king would grow out of the ‘stump’ of Jesse (David’s father). He would be filled with the spirit of the Lord and would judge all with fairness.

Romans 15:4-9. Jesus is the one through whom God fulfilled his promises. Highlighting the value of hope, Paul urges us to treat others as Christ has treated us.

Matthew 3:1-12. John the Baptist comes preaching in the wilderness, as foretold by Isaiah. Dressed as the prophet Elijah before him, John is portrayed as the ‘Elijah’ who was to come. He proclaims the Messiah as an uncompromising judge.
